The Itinerary

Day 1 – 2: Arrival & Ballito (2 Nights)

Arriving at King Shaka International Airport guests will collect their pre-booked hire car and take a short 20 min drive to the beautiful coastline of Ballito.

Ballito is located along KwaZulu-Natal’s Dolphin Coast. Offering an excellent selection of accommodation, from stylish beachfront hotels and family-friendly resorts to boutique guesthouses, self-catering apartments and luxury villas. Spend your days relaxing on Willard Beach, swimming in the warm Indian Ocean or exploring the coastline, while nearby attractions include Thompson’s Bay, the Ballito Boardwalk. For the adventure seekers, guests can enjoy surfing, deep-sea fishing, ocean activities and seasonal dolphin and whale sightings.

Following a welcoming stay on the beautiful coastline of Ballito guests will start their inland journey to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park. +- 2 hours 50 minutes’ drive.

One of KwaZulu-Natal’s most iconic wildlife destinations, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park offers an exceptional safari experience across a diverse landscape of rolling hills, savannah and indigenous bushveld. The park is renowned for its white and black rhino, while regular sightings of elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo make it a fantastic Big Five destination. Its diverse habitats also support giraffe, cheetah, wild dog, zebra, wildebeest, hippo and a remarkable variety of birdlife. With fewer crowds than many of South Africa’s larger safari destinations, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi provides an intimate and rewarding wildlife experience for nature and safari enthusiasts. Day 5 will take you on a 3-hour journey further north to the Pongola reserve. Set in the heart of northern KwaZulu-Natal, Pongola Game Reserve offers a beautiful blend of wildlife, wilderness and tranquil scenery. Centred around the vast Pongolapoort Dam and surrounded by rugged mountains, the reserve is home to elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and a variety of antelope and birdlife, with excellent opportunities for game drives and boat safaris.

With a selection of intimate lodges and scenic safari stays, Pongola is an ideal destination for travellers looking to experience wildlife and adventure away from the crowds, while enjoying the spectacular landscapes of northern KZN.

After a brief but surely memorable stop in Pongola, guests will continue their journey to Kosi Bay. A 3-hour drive will take you to beautiful and secluded Kosi Forest Lodge.

Tucked away in the pristine wetlands of northern KwaZulu-Natal, Kosi Forest Lodge offers an enchanting escape surrounded by lush coastal forest, freshwater lakes and waterways. Accessible only by boat or 4x4, this intimate lodge provides a true sense of adventure and seclusion. These transfers are included in your stay.

Guests can explore the remarkable Kosi Bay ecosystem through boat trips, canoeing, guided walks, fishing and birdwatching, with opportunities to discover the area’s rich marine and coastal wildlife. With an array of activities on offer you can choose to be as active or relaxed as you want to be.

The private escapes continue with a short 1 hour 30 mins drive back down south to Thonga Beach Lodge. Tucked away along the pristine shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Thonga Beach Lodge offers an idyllic barefoot escape on one of KwaZulu-Natal’s most beautiful stretches of coastline. Surrounded by coastal forest and overlooking the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, this intimate lodge combines secluded luxury with an authentic connection to nature.

Guests can enjoy snorkelling, swimming, kayaking, turtle tracking and guided beach walks, while the surrounding wetlands and ocean provide wonderful opportunities for wildlife and birdlife encounters.

After a few days of relaxation bliss St Lucia awaits St. Lucia is a stunning coastal village inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park UNESCO World Heritage Site. While staying here guests will have the opportunity to take part in many different experiences such as:

• Estuary Boat Cruises - Sail on Lake St. Lucia to see hundreds of hippos and Nile crocodiles up close

• Guided Night Drives - Explore the reserve after dark to spot leopards, chameleons, porcupines, and bushbabies.

• Snorkelling at Cape Vidal - Drive through the park to a sheltered bay ideal for snorkelling, rock-pool exploring, and beach picnics.

• Turtle Tours (Seasonal) - Witness nesting loggerhead and leatherback turtles on evening beach excursions from November to March.

• Beach & Game Horseback Riding - Trot along the estuary and sand, then ride through reserve bush alongside zebras and rhinos.
